The kitchen wasn't exactly empty. Jack wasn't currently flirting with Sasan (it was only funny when Jim was there) but he was playing cards, some sort of weird version of solitaire that he had this far been able to properly convey the rules to anyone on how to play.
The swish of the door did cause him to look up, one strangely shaped card in hand, and his eyes drifted from Jim to the two shorter boys.
He knew one of them. He'd followed Gabriel for years (well, a week or so for himself but years for Gabriel) since the boy was ten while he was vetting him for Torchwold. He kept that to himself. This might not be Gabriel after all, but any one of his doppelgängers.
