Who: Murder Kids
When: January 15th
What: Lockdown at the Hub but some people just don't know how to play by the rules.
The fourth day of lockdown was no different from the third or the second other than a growing sense of boredom. Most of the engineering and IT folk were still working at the Rift core in an attempt to find the intrusion. It shouldn't have taken that long, and that's what bothered Jack the most was the morale of his people.
Many were fine, even with being cut off from the Archive and their work. Some, however, were not. Gabriel and Jim were the worst culprits there, pacing at times, running up and down the catwalks...
It was driving him crazy.
There were also a lot of their people gone, various agents on various missions. That they couldn't get back was worrying too. At least they did happen to have power. Otherwise, by now they would have a very dead prisoner. Jack really hated that.
But what he hated the most? People able to bypass all of his precautions and get into the Hub without any of the security systems in place to let him know.

But this boy didn't have to be. It might get hard to have two Gabriels but hey, Jack could call this one Junior. The thought tickled him just a little. And the boy might end up going home anyway.
"But that can be for later. You stay here and I'll get you something to wear." Not that they had a whole lot of things laying around for kids--
no subject
He pushed the thought away. A lot of this could be for later. He was feeling woozy and tired, and he suspected that adding two powers within a week might be a factor in that. The rest of it- well, it was obvious where that would come from.
"Anything's fine," he said, as Jack told him he'd find something to wear. The blood soaking through his shirt was getting tacky and cold, but he left it for the moment.
"Why're you being so nice to me?" he blurted out, before Jack made it out the door. "I don't even want to be nice to me right now."
no subject
Jack smiled. "I can't save everyone. I can't even find everyone that needs to be saved. I picked you. Not the you that's talking to me right now, but it's still you. I think I just chose to rescue the wrong one when I had the chance. Gabriel was already saved. Mohinder found him first." Jack ducked out of the door and went to find Sasan. Sylar was a skinny kid, but tall, and Sasan happened to wear clothing that might as well be painted on sometimes. Mohinder might have something as well but...
Jack really didn't want to interrupt whatever was going on with Mohinder and Gabriel right now. He'd already gotten them an engagement present for the surprise party and he didn't want have to return it.
It was best that they figure out for themselves what to do.

And then he was left alone. He felt cold, through and through. He stretched out a shaky hand and watched as the running water in the sink began to steam from the heat.
He looked at the palm of his hand, as if it would somehow seem different. But he didn't see what he wanted. So he crossed his arms tightly and leaned up against a wall, pressing his face to the cool tile to keep his nausea down.
Sasan was back in the kitchen, hoping to sneak a piece of pizza when no one was looking. He was a little sad at being caught, but kept munching on it anyway. "Hey, how'd it go with those creepy kids?" he asked, when he saw Jack again.
no subject
Sasan had yet to repeat an outfit since their lockdown so he was hoping there was something clean and appropriate he could get. There wasn't a whole lot of time. Someone needed to get back to Sylar. The kid couldn't be alone.
no subject
With a smile, he replied, "Oh, he had to go for another walk. You know, since the last one got interrupted. He usually starts at the top and works his way down, so he's probably up there somewhere. Why? Do you need him?"
no subject
"I need you. Well, some of your clothing. Something teenage you sized," Jack clarified. "Jeans and a shirt. And some socks. And maybe some underware?" Jack arched his eyebrows and grinned. Yes, he was being flirty. With blood under his fingernails. Don't pay attention to that.
no subject
He put the remains of his pizza slice down, and caught that blood under Jack's fingernails. This prompted a bit of a frown. "You'll tell me all about it once the dust settles, won't you?" Because he will be asking.
And then he was out the door, only to return within a minute or two with a full suitcase. Opening it up, he started to sort through. "Okay, no...no, no. This might work, no. Hmm, all the jeans could go, but it might be smarter to stick with the skinny jeans, that kid is a twig."
He separated out about four outfits, all coordinated and fairly dark colors, for Sasan. "Just tell him to use all of these. It feels better if you have some choices." He plopped the pile of folded clothes into Jack's hands.
no subject
Once Sasan had returned to the kitchen, though, depositing the large stack of clothing in his hands, Jack reached forward with the jeans curled against his chest between one arm and hugged the younger man tightly.
"I'm not going to ask why you keep so many clothes here on a constant basis," Jack said and pulled back again.
He grabbed a soda from the fridge and then nodded back to Sasan.
"I think you're good for Jim. And I think you should tell him that you are. But minding my own business!" And off he went back to Sylar.
no subject
The advice actually made Sasan blush slightly. He hadn't been expecting it, and it wasn't the usual teasing/flirting. He was smiling quietly to himself as Jack left the room.
Sylar didn't want to be in this room anymore, but he didn't want to leave either. For one brief, fleeting moment, he wanted to go back to Primatech, before he realized he wanted to go back in time. He was staring at a spot on the floor, thinking about this, when Jack came back in. His eyes immediately went to Jack, and then to the clothes. "Wow, you hit the jackpot."
no subject
Jack reached out to take Sylar's cheek in hand, large thumb rubbing briefly against his temple. It was the smallest of gestures and though it was affectionate, Jack didn't intend it to really be so. He just wanted Sylar to be strong.
He was alone here, after all. His support system was gone. Jack was offering himself as a surrogate for now.
no subject
Jack was out of the room by the time Sylar could've reacted. He saw his own face in the mirror and sighed. It was time to move forward.
He took off the bloody clothes slowly, as if he were feeling sore. He showered for a long while, spending some of his time trying to heat the water himself. It wasn't too hard, but he could tell he'd need a lot of practice before his control was as good as Luke's. He'd make sure he got there.
When he was done, his body at least felt better. He chose some black jeans with a gray shirt and a dark purple hoodie, and he opened the door to the hallway. "I made you wait," he said- not apologizing, but showing that he did notice he took awhile, at least. "So what happens now?"
no subject
"Right now, we have to wait. We could be here awhile. If your ability starts to work again once you rest...then you can decide before we lift our lockdown if you want to leave or not." Jack was going to offer Sylar a place here if he wanted to be here but given the circumstances and knowing that there was a Mohinder Suresh waiting for him back home, Jack was actually going to push him to return to a place and a person he knew could help him.
"There's a lot of options once we get ourselves sorted with out hacker friend. You can stay, but it will be provisionally. You're too young to work for me. We can try to find out exactly where you came from and send you there...or we can find somewhere else for you to go."
There was, of course, a few more options, like bringing younger Mohinder here, but that might raise stakes here for the agents. They didnt need teenagers underfoot.
"For today, let's focus on dinner and then giving you a place to sleep." Jack was going to give Sylar his own bed, tucked up in the observatory. It was safe and secluded.
no subject
Jack was still being nice. Maybe he felt guilty about pushing it this far. Maybe he was just a nice guy- although a nice guy wouldn't have talked a teenager into assisted suicide. Regardless of whether Sylar should be mad or not, it was nice having a hand on his shoulder, keeping him connected to something. It helped him focus.
The Captain went through the options, far more than Gabriel expected, and talked about dinner and sleep. One of those sounded excellent to Sylar. But the other... "I don't know if I can eat anything," he admitted. "'m not hungry." He'd just gotten over wanting to hurl, in fact.
With confusion in his face, he asked, "You'd really let me stay here?" He didn't figure he'd want to, once he found out the provisions. But that meant that Jack might not have just been trying to be nice when he said he did good. Did they actually trust him after that?
no subject
"I would really let you stay here if you wanted to stay here," Jack replied without any hesitation. He pointed with his free hand upward. "There's a lot of steps but the mattress is comfortable and no one will bother you."
He wasn't lying either. To get to the cubby hole, Sylar would eventually have to climb a ladder and crawl into what looked like an observation dome. Jack explained that there was a bathroom nearby and where the intercom was should Gabriel need him.
That should give Gabriel just a little bit of a sense of privacy too, knowing that Jack would not in fact be hovering and yet would be within reach.
He'd figured out by now that Sylar was a boy with a skewed and somewhat needy desire for physical affection that he likely never requested. So Jack, with his long arms and wide chest and too much heat pulled Sylar against him for another hug.
Gabriel had become like a son to him and Sylar, honestly, needed a father.
no subject
The hug caught him off guard. He was frozen for a moment, then he hugged Jack back with a sort of desperateness that Jack probably hadn't felt too often. It was hard to push all the emotions aside when someone was hugging you. And Jack was warm, something that he needed right now. Even though he had Luke's power now, he'd felt cold all the way through, ever since taking it. Jack helped fight that unpleasant feeling.
"Thanks," he murmured into Jack's shoulder, before finally letting go. His lips pulled back into the closest he'd be getting to a smile for awhile. He headed up into whatever weird little bedroom this was, figuring it would take him awhile to get to sleep. He was tired as all hell, but he didn't figure he'd be able to rest right away. Wouldn't hurt to try, though, right?

The temps Jack brought in to run the Hub were scary. Actually, the regulars were a little scary too. Kaylie might have an angelic grin but she could be frightening! Jim had seen her take a wrench to the core plenty of times!
This was only the going-on-fifth day of lockdown. The last one had been much longer, but this one was worse because of the reason they had been forced into it.
And now some kids were able to break through? It made his head hurt.
Jim passed Gabriel and Mohinder in the hall. He only nodded in passing. He stopped to talk to John Watson for a little while and tried to be pleasant to Henry but... Henry was just strange and quiet. He was a little surprised Jack wasn't around to bump into but he was probably wrapped up in playing dad.
Jim found himself thinking about trying not to think about Spock but it had been a long time since he had tried addressing his long dead bondmate through a telepathic link that no longer existed. It felt less and less heavy too. That was frightening...
And a relief.
It was never meant to bind you to me, Jim. Jim wasn't sure if that was even accurately the way Spock use to speak to him or not.
no subject
Following Jim's walking path wasn't all that hard, at least not for Sasan. He went up instead of down, figuring that he hadn't seen Jim pass the kitchen yet. Oh, and there he was! Sasan liked turning a corner and coming face-to-face with the guy.
He grinned and walked down the hallway to meet up with the guy. "Hi, there. Mind if I walk with you?"
no subject
“Yeah, sure,” Jim said immediately, pausing and glancing over his shoulder so that Sasan could catch up. The hallway was just wide enough for them to walk abreast without really touching, though perhaps their knuckles would from time to time. Jim didn’t hate the idea. He wasn’t exactly touch-apprehensive. “Something happen?”
It was common for Sasan to seek him out, and just as common for Jim to do the same, but this felt different. Sasan’s body language was a little stiffer than he was use to.
no subject
At the question, Sasan smiled. "Nothing outside the usual. Jack wanted to borrow some clothes for the Mini-Gabriel." He shrugged, but it was stiff. Sasan felt slightly nervous, for once in his life. This was something he cared a great deal about getting right. He figured he should get straight to this, lest he do the unthinkable and chicken out.
"Ah, well, um." Good start. "I realized that I should bring this up now before things get crazy again." He noticed he was looking forward through the hallway when he didn't need to be. He looked up to meet Jim's eyes. "I really like you, Jim. I thought maybe it was just that you saved me at first, but it's become very clear that's not really it. You make me want to be a better person than I was back in LA...I think we're good for each other. I don't know if you'll ever be open to dating or feeling like that again, but I'll be here for you if you do."
He took a deep, loud breath, and hoped very strongly that he didn't just mess everything up. "Anyway, I hope that's okay. I thought you should know."
no subject
Sasan was never like this. Jim had never once heard the other give false starts at all since they had met. Sure. It was only a few months but it felt like it could be a lifetime.
Concern crossed over his face before that concern turned to surprise. He knew Sasan was forward (he'd practically jumped Mohinder within the hour of meeting him) but this was unexpected. But what a silly thing to be surprised about considering all of their time together....
His mind was racing.
"Are you.... Suggesting.... Wait, Sasan--". Jim gently took his shoulder to push him around to face him. "Are you asking me out?"
no subject
"Yeah, that's definitely what I'm trying to do, in my own unique awkward-high-schooler way. Is that...?" He bowed his head down a little, hopeful and scared at the same time. "Is that something you'd consider?" His smile widened, trying to tip him over further onto the hopeful side.
Jim tended to be prickly, but he was always a little softer towards Sasan. Sasan knew that made their relationship special, but he didn't know if it meant much in terms of romance. He could've maybe been reading into it.
no subject
"Can we talk?" It seemed only fair. "I mean yeah I know we can talk but will you let me tell you about him?"
That was either the worst way to answer someone who expressed interest in your romantically... Or maybe the best. Either way, they had a load of time here. And it was better than wandering the halls.
no subject
Of course, the question Jim asked still left things very ambiguous. But this was something that Sasan had wanted to know about for ages. He sort of laughed at himself in a bit of relief and nodded. "Of course. Please do. I'd like to know about him, if you're willing to tell me."
no subject
He stopped that train of thought and when he was seated across from the other man, Jim leaned forward on his upper thighs and just started to speak.
"He was my first officer. Half human, half an alien race that doesn't exist in this reality called Vulcan. Their whole deal was to purge emotion and embrace logic." Telling Sasan about how they met was bittersweet and almost romantic. The stranding, the former reality-- Jim had obviously been dealing with this life for a long time. "Anyway. We were four years into our five year mission when he entered his first, uh... Heat. I know how that sounds. Vulcans form this connection with people, telepathically. The woman that had been chosen for him perished on his home world. The one he had been seeing... They didn't have a way to connect. I heard him calling in my bones while he was in sickbay. He had gotten violent... Violent enough to break out of his restraints. Hormones and all-- But anyway, we were compatible. He was pretty much my best friend already anyway so that was no surprise. We had this link... We had it for a long time. I still have it now, but his end is dark."
It had taken almost an hour to get this far. Jim had been focusing on crazy adventures along the way.
"I've died before. That was terrifying. But experiencing him die-- I think it just keeps going. I don't even know if I can be with anyone again..." He blinked away the wetness from his eyes. "He's still with me, but I can barely remember him. Not in as much detail as I should. I could close my eyes and tell you what you were wearing the last week but I can't remember how my bondmate said my name."

He has the drumming noise. He was such a weird character.
D: That would definitely make someone unstable.
